About us

Our story

Kids.Think.Art at the ICA, Boston

Kids.Think.Art is born out of a dire need for more diversity in museums and a resolve to create change through art. People of color have historically been underrepresented in art collections, in art professions, and in art audiences. This discrepancy is the result of systemic racism that Kids.Think.Art combats. Through our research, we bring the spotlight on diverse artists across the world with an unique perspective on Blackness and related issues.

Through our programming, we create opportunities for artists of color to showcase their art. Through our projects, we build up a community of art lovers who engage with global art by and with people of color, develop critical thinking skills, and continue to foster change. Kids.Think.Art is in the business of creating spatial justice in art.

Our founder

Yawa Degboe, MFA, Gallery Instructor Training

Yawa Degboe’s calling is to make the invisible visible through art. She graduated from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s Gallery Instructor program, right at the time where the COVID-19 pandemic forced places of culture to close. She pivoted to create an online initiative for Black and Brown girls to interact with art by and with people of color, and build a community where children could see themselves represented in art. Together they explore issues related to Blackness: Kids.Think.Art was born. Yawa has leaned on her previous experience as Assistant Teacher at the French Cultural Center in Boston and Youth Coordinator in France and across Europe to build a unique experience for kids of color. Yawa holds a Master’s from Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne, France, and an MBA from Clark University, Massachusetts. She speaks both English and French.
